And Today...
Statement as of 3:52 PM AKDT on April 06, 2011
... Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 7 am akdt Thursday...
Blizzard conditions with visibilities reduced to near zero have overspread the coastal regions this afternoon as the powerful Bering Sea low moves towards the western coast. An additional 2 to 6 inches of snow accumulations are possible overnight. This snow will combine with east to southeast winds of 25 to 50 mph to produce blowing snow that will keep visibilities reduced to near zero... especially along the coast. Warmer air will overspread the region during the morning hours and snow will change to rain most areas... especially from Bethel south and east. However... cold air will arrive from the west and winds will again increase by Thursday afternoon. Blizzard conditions could redevelop during the afternoon hours... especially along the northern coast. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to white-out conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. All travel and outdoor activity is strongly discouraged.
Just ventured outside to relieve the dogs. We were nearly blown off the steps.
Yup, it's perdy gusty out there. Everybody's been talking about the warning of high tides combined with these high winds pushing the shore ice up onto land.
This might be nearing the worst storm for wind
and snow that I've experienced so far.
Even sent out the phone tree in case of school cancellation.
The blizzard, however has not proven to be strong enough to keep locals from enjoying the grand opening of our long awaited new village store. Which was hopping despite the danger of getting stuck in the parking lot. It was surreal. You walk across the small gravel parking lot weaving between four wheelers and snow gos then you enter what seriously looks like Walmart! Which is exactly what one of our coworkers commented as she was sitting at a table near the little coffee counter.."Welcome to the Village Walmart." And it was, even down to the lines at the check out. We were all stunned, jaws on the floor gawking at the shelves full of anything we could imagine. Kids were gleefully running up and down the aisles pushing mini shopping carts. Then the store gave away free gifts of food. I got a snack box with a cheese block shaped like a bowling pin and some pretzels and honey mustard. So kind. Anyway we're all hunkered down using rugs to try to block the obviously drafts flowing every which way through the house, tundra air conditioning.
Could These Two Be Any Cuter?
We went for a walk to the Kanektok River with Connie and Sally yesterday.
The boys were eagerly and intently awaiting Sally to come out and play.
The Three Amigos
Shout Out To: My dear friends Celeste and George welcoming their
brand new baby girl into the world yesterday! Welcome aboard Lily! Congratulations Mommy and Daddy:)

That's crazy! It was 80 over the weekend and we grilled chicken last night for dinner. Your pups are seriously cute! Hopefully I can meet Qimugta this summer - looks like he's going to be big!
