The Guinea Pig That Didn't

9 Miles in Bethel Pretty Much Covers the Whole Place
While in Bethel last weekend my friend Erin and I ran 9 miles! Yep, that's pretty well one end to the other. Well, almost anyway. We left from her house headed to the airport hung a right on the BIA road and chugged up to the old BIA hospital incidentally also the end of that particular road. I REEEEAALLLLYY wanted to go poke around and see what there was to see, but the KEEP OUT, UNDER SURVEILLANCE, NO TRESPASSING signs posted on the fence I needed to wedge myself through to get in, were enough of a deterrent for my rebellious self to stay at a legal distance. It would be pretty interesting though I think. Must be a tendency I gained from rummaging through all the old logging camp dumps my mom instilled in us early on as children. Pulling back clumps of moss and grass well rooted from years of growth we would scavenge through occasionally exclaiming "Wow! Look at this broken old bottle I found! I bet it's.... old." Who knew what amazing treasures one might find. May also explain why she was so adamant about us always having up to date tetanus shots. I admit, Mom did find some cool things like a few lanterns, and several intact old colored bottles. Mostly I just remember thinking..."When can we go back to the cabin and go swimming?"

So on the flight home from Bethel I shared a 207 with another teacher from Eek who was attempting to bring a guinea pig back as a favor for one of her colleague's classrooms. However as we crossed the tarmac to hop aboard, the future of this particular guinea pig was looking a little grim. He appeared to be seizing. She asked the pilot if we could stop in Eek for the sake of the ill pig, though understanding her plight he apologized but had to go "ALL THE WAY TO QUINHAGAK" first since there were people needing to travel to Eek from there. That pretty much sealed the fate of the semi-domesticated rodent on board and frankly, we all knew it. Hoping for the best and in solemn silence the engine sputtered and off we zoomed the 50 minute flight to Quin. Upon touch down I'm sad to report there was one less being in our plane. We said a few words though we didn't know it long and laid it to rest in the tundra. Afterall maybe they could still get their money back on the cage.

I arrived home yesterday to my front yard (okay I really don't have a yard but it's the little spot of land I like to pretend is my front yard) all torn up. It appears that my Jenga block foundation may very well be getting a little needed support. Not positive and a little weirded out that it's all going on when I'm still occupying the house but thrilled for the attention none the less.

Happy kids learning in full swing. Just a few candids to enjoy. School has been in session now for almost three weeks! It is crazy. It is September. Time Flies.

In case you ever wondered
what really was on the other side of the rainbow????...It's Quinhagak, Alaska
But shhhhhh, don't tell!
We don't want everyone stampeding in here wrecking a good thing:)

"Because we know that this extraordinary day is just ahead, we pray for you all the time—pray that our God will make you fit for what he's called you to be, pray that he'll fill your good ideas and acts of faith with his own energy so that it all amounts to something."

I can't seem to print your latest blog, did you change something with it? The format looks a little different, but I should be able to still print right? What will my Dad do if he doesn't have "the blog" to read?????
    Thanks Lisa
